Relative giving you investment advice, and you just want them to shut up… what do you do?

My grandpa, love him, but all he talks about is investing for retirement and how I need to do it. Is there a way I can say leave me alone? I do not want to be like him- always concerned with money issues. I just want to enjoy life. Money is nice, but distracting, and corrupting. I don’t want to spend all my life bleeding and struggling to make money, just to end up old and miserly, unable to physically enjoy what is left of my life, financing my prolonged degrading existance.

Try the best as you can to explain your point of view. Seeems you are still young and want – of course – to enjoy your life. Tell him that you appreciate how much he worries and that if you were his age, you would probably think the same too.
Ask him if he was like that/did he have any other concerns when he was younger…or was money his main focus ?
Try to be nice but firm at the same time.
Some people are just like that…….everything is about money…..and they bore you to death.
Thank him for his concern but tell him that you have other problems to worry about too…
Change the subject and ask his opinion about something else…

Oh gosh…..grandpa’s do that!!! Cherish the time you have with him (he might even have something to teach you….imagine that???)…..you won’t have him forever and you will wish you had just one more lecture on “money”!!!! My father-in-law (my kids grandpa) is the same way….he sure can wear on you…..but we just try to enjoy our visits, let him “teach” us a thing or two…..and then we do as we see fit once we leave. Good Luck : )

just patronize him and tell him thanks for the advice that youll take it into consideration and look into it. all older people are like that. theyre still tramatized from the depression.

when your older you’ll realize gramps was right, your view of money is all wrong and you have no respect for it, hence your views, so unless you are a hot looking girl who can marry rich, i hope your future includes some high paying job, or you more than likely join the young but broke set who see life the way you do and then wonder why they will struggle with money for the rest of their lives, watch enough suzy corman and you see exactly what i mean
